lights! camera! action!

As some of you might know I was attending a portrait photography class at our local adult education center about a year ago. While the tutor was very sympathetic and anxious to teach us the basics of modern portrait photography he had no concept whatsoever and the class was disjointed and confusing. Having been a software consultant for over 7 years, teaching countless of classes how to use my employers software, I kept wondering what I would do differently. That's when the idea of teaching an own photography class some day was born.

I love to get people excited about something I really care about. But back then I wasn't ready for that task yet. Further down the road of my photographic journey the idea was still present. I asked a colleage, a former employee of our local adult education center, what kind of qualification one needs to teach a class. She replied "None. You just need to have a convincing concept." That was my starting shot. I sat down and wrote a detailed concept for a class called "Light & Shadow - How to unleash your Speedlites". I submitted it to our local adult education center... and never heared a word from them.

Just when I gave up and thought they didn't like my concept they emailed me and told me they wanted to include my class in the coming fall/winter program. That's how it came to pass that I'm going to teach my very first photography class in November. A dream came true. And I even get paid for it. :-)

Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith. Faith in your own abilities. You'll be surprised what can be achieved...

For all fellow Germans (or all German-speaking folks), here's the link to the class. Feel free to enlist :-) I'm looking forward to meet you!

  1. I am so happy to read this Marco! If I lived nearer I would definitely come and be one of your students!

You are right too about taking a leap of faith, I need to find me some strong legs to take a leap myself :)

  2. Congratulations Marco. I'm sure it'll be a great success. Are you going to be busy now creating the coursework or is it already created? I know you've obviously done some work for the college to approve but didn't know if that was 100% of the course or 1%

Like Tracey, when you go Global I'm signing up ;)

  3. Thank you both! :-)

@Carl: The coursework has been already completed. I've finished it before submitting it to the adult education center. Of course there will be some updates and changes prior to the course, but nothing fancy.

Get me a place and enough interested parties and I'd die for teaching a class in the UK! :-)
